This may happen due to incorrect registry value type for Recent
Click Start, Run and type Regedit.exe
HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ Microsoft \ Windows \ CurentVersion \ Explorer \ User Shell Folders
The Value type must be of REG_EXPAND_SZ type.

To check for file system errors and bad sectors on your hard disk, follow these steps:
1. | Double-click My Computer, and then right-click the local disk that you want to check. |
2. | Click Properties, and then click Tools. |
3. | Under Error-checking, click Check Now. |
4. | Under Check disk options, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box. |
5. | Click Start. |
Hibernate isn't available from the default Shut Down dialog. But you can enable it easily, by holding down the SHIFT key while the dialog is visible. |
