Close Registry Editor and restart Windows.

If the Customize tab is still missing,

Browse through the shell32.dll icons (or any other .ico or .dll file)
Select the appropriate icon for the folder and click OK

Fixing the association settings automatically

Download exefix_xp.com utility and save to Desktop. Double-click the file to run it. This utility fixes the exefile association in the registry automatically.

If the Network Connection icons are missing, try the following to get them back:

Click Start, Run and type CMD and press Enter
Run the following commands one-by-one and press Enter after each command:

You can still connect to (or disconnect from) the ISP using the RAS Phonebook. Follow these steps:

Click Start, Run and type:

Double-click the file named RASPHONE.PBK (Shows up as RASPHONE) and connect to the internet.

When you try to log on to Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition or Microsoft Windows XP Professional, you receive the following error message:

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the current user profile is damaged. To resolve this issue, create a new user profile.

  1. Log on as the Administrator or as a user with administrator credentials.
  2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  3. Click User Accounts.
  4. Under Pick a task, click Create a new account.
  5. Type a name for the user information, and then click Next.
  6. Click an account type, and then click Create Account.

Copy files to the new user profile

click Tools, click Folder Options, click the View tab, click Show hidden files and folders, click to clear the Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click OK.
